Rasheed Adam Malik January 16, 1981 - May 31, 2024
Rasheed Adam Malik, aged 43, succumbed to brain cancer after a courageous, 13-month battle on May 31, 2024 in Arlington, VA.
Rasheed, also known as Adam to some, graduated from Manheim Township High School in Lancaster, PA in 1999. He went on to study at NYU, Baruch College and the University of Michigan where he received his Masters in Public Policy from the Gerald R. Ford School. Rasheed resided in Arlington with his family and was the Senior Director of Early Childhood Policy at the Center for American Progress in Washington DC.
Rasheed was a brilliant researcher, a loving father and husband, a principled policy professional, a team player, a caring colleague and mentor, the life of the party, a die-hard Michigan football fan (Go Blue!) and a dear friend to many. As an advocate for early childhood welfare at CAP, his groundbreaking research on America’s child care deserts led to the development of several policies and continues to be cited by academics, policymakers, advocates and media.
He leaves behind his wife (Anne), two beautiful children (Naima and Clark), his parents (Naeem and Sarah Malik of Lititz, PA) and sister (Nadia Malik).
While his life has ended too soon, he lived an impactful life worth noting and will be greatly missed. Rasheed’s Tribute and Memorial service will be held at Advent Funeral Services (7211 Lee Highway, Falls Church, VA) on June 22 at 11 am. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the National Brain Tumor Society in Rasheed’s name.
