Ray Krug
September 9th, 1933 - April 15th, 2009
Ray S. Krug, D.D.S, passed away on April 15, 2009 at Lutheran Hospice Center. His memorial service will be held Saturday, May 2nd at 10:00 AM at Faith Bible Chapel (East Campus), 6210 Ward Road, Arvada, CO. Ray was born on September 9, 1933 in Cuello, Illinois and spent a joyful childhood in Christopher, Illinois. He is the only child of Reinhardt Edward and Oda “Ottie” Steele Krug. Ray was the first of his family to receive an education higher than 8th grade at the urging of both of his parents. Ray received his undergraduate degree in Organic Chemistry from the Southern Illinois University at Carbondale in 1954 and his Doctorate of Dental Surgery from the University of Illinois at Chicago in 1958. In 1960 Ray was drafted into the Army and was assigned to the 82nd Airborne out of Fort Bragg, N.C where he served as an Army Captain. From 1970 to 1975 he taught Fixed Prosthodontics at the University of New York at Buffalo and was Chairman of Fixed Prosthodontics a the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Ray then moved to Denver, CO where he opened a private practice and delighted in caring for people for the next 34 years. His expertise and special sense of humor made him truly a one-of-a-kind caregiver. He served the community until 2007 when he retired. Over the course of his career, Ray was admitted into the American Academy of Restorative Dentistry, and he became a Fellow in the International College of Dentists as well as the American College of Dentists. In his final years, Ray spent many hours writing a memoir of his childhood in Southern Illinois. Ray is survived by his wife, Claire, his children, Mike, Jill, Kelli and David as well as two grandchildren. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him. His family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations are sent in his name to Collier Hospice at Lutheran Hospital, 8300 W. 38th Avenue, Wheat Ridge, CO, 80033; or Guide Dogs for the Blind, PO BOX 3950, San Rafael, CA 94912.
