Raymond Bailey

Raymond Bailey,71, of Davenport, Florida passed away on January 6, 2018. He was born on November 18, 1946 in Flint, Michigan to Floyd William and Mary Grace Fulger Bailey. Raymond graduated from Clinton Community College with an associate degree in nursing in 1970, as matter of fact he was one of the first male registered nurses in the country. While in school he was employed in several occupations, including, an EMT and electrician. He was also a deputy sheriff and a medic corp. commander with the Army Reserves in Clinton, Iowa, all while being a practicing RN, mainly in emergency medicine. He proudly served in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War as a corpsman. He was injured by mortar fire while providing medical aid to a wounded soldier in Operation Hastings, in fact he was a 2time Purple Heart recipient, receiving the second one post Vietnam. Afterward he went into the Army National guard to continue to support the country he loved, and was placed on active duty through the Gulf war. He retired as a Captain. Raymond was a lot of things to a lot of people, a craftsman, builder, mechanic, artist, Johnny Appleseed, gardener, fisherman, a registered nurse with the knowledge of most doctors, a patriotic American. He was also an explorer of the world around him and abroad, a kid at heart, he was always cheerful, a compass and great friend to all who needed one. He is survived by his wife, Kathleen E. Bailey; children, Carol Ann Blackwood, Janet Marie Cassidy, Barbara Jo Bailey, Robert Victor Bailey, Pamela Lynn Bailey and 22 grandchildren.
