All Veterans Funeral & Cremation - Wheat Ridge
Raymond Bradley
September 18th, 1922 - February 27th, 2009
Raymond Bradley passed quietly in his sleep, with his wife of 45 years at his side on February 27, 2009. Ray and Mary moved to Aurora,Colorado from Cleveland, Ohio in 2007 to be near children, grand children and great grandchildren. They felt right at home in Colorado and Ray really enjoyed our weather. Raymond V. Bradley was a member of the first all-black Navy band which was formed during World War II. This band performed at all military functions on the Naval base, as well as for President F.D. Roosevelt’s visits, and with numerous USO shows featuring stars of stage and screen. They also formed a dance band known as the Gobs of Swing. The entire group of 23 remained together for the duration of the war. For over 60 years, starting as an enlisted Navy band member in World War II, to a renown band leader, Cleveland, Ohio area, to a retired state of Ohio employee, Ray has entertained thousands of audiences. The Ray Bradley Trio has rubbed shoulders with the Greats of that era, Count Basie, Cab Calloway, Duke Ellington, Dorothy Danridge, etc. But now his Sax is silent, but not forgotten. Survived by his loving wife, Mary, Son- Kenneth Wilson, Daughter- Marcella Barnett, 6 Grandchildren and 9 Great grandchildren, nieces and a host of friends. Private internment at Fort Logan, Denver, Colorado. Memorial donations should be given to The Denver Hospice, 501 S. Cherry St #700, Denver, Colorado 80246
