Funeral services for Raymond D. Humphries, 81, of Hopkins, will be held at 2:30 pm Wednesday, February 9, 2011 at Trinity Church of Columbia with Pastor Terry Roberts officiating. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Park ? Serenity Gardens, Windwan Drive Columbia. Viewing and visitation will be held at the church from 1pm until the hour of the service on Wednesday. Greenlawn Funeral Home has been entrusted with the arrangements. Mr. Humphries passed away on Sunday, February 6, 2011. He was born November 29, 1929 in Columbia, SC to the late Otis C. Humphries and Ella N. Geddings Humphries. Mr. Humphries was retired from the Norfolk Southern Railroad after 42 years of service. He was a long-time member of Trinity Church, and loved hunting and fishing. Surviving are his children: daughters, Theresa H. Clark, Donna H. Potter, Emily H. White and Nicole L. Humphries ? all of Columbia; and sons, Raymond D. Humphries Jr. (wife, Judy B. Humphries) of Columbia and L. Lee Humphries (wife, Janet Humphries) of Sanford, NC; 9 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; 4 great-great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Juanita Shirah of Columbia and Mary Sue Smith of West Columbia. He was predeceased by his beloved wife of 60 years, Bettie Buff Humphries; his parents; four brothers; and a sister. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to Trinity Church Building Fund, 1501 Hallbrook Dr. Columbia, SC 29209.
