Rex Albert Powell

Rex A. Powell, 76, entered the gates of Heaven on September 10, 2014 after losing his battle against Acute Myeloid Leukemia. He was born August 11, 1938 in Julesburg, Colorado to Raymond and Edna Powell. Throughout his childhood he worked hard on various farms in Sedgewick County with his 5 brothers and 1 sister. In high school he was a star athlete and played basketball, football, baseball and track. He graduated from Ovid High School in 1956. This is where he met his one and only sweetheart Beverly. They married on November 24, 1956 and had 3 daughters and 1 son. They lived in Denver and Grand Junction before settling in Colorado Springs in 1966. Rex proudly worked as a manager at Hewlett Packard for 30 years before retiring. Rex enjoyed playing softball, golf, bowling, and bridge. When he retired he loved traveling with his wife Bev in their RV and spending winters in Arizona.Above all Rex loved his family and friends. He enjoyed spending time with his great-grandchildren. He was loved and admired by all. Rex is survived by his daughters Diana (Steve) Powell-Lawrence and Kathryn (Jeff) Kohne, Amber (Corey) Kirt (granddaughter); 7 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren (+ one on the way), 1 great-great-grandchild Rex is preceded in death by his wife of 56 years, Beverly; his daughter and son Julie and Richard Powell; and his great-grandsons Trenton Kirt and Sunshine O'Connor. Rex's family would like to thank the doctors and staff at Anschutz Cancer Pavilion, Rocky Mountain Cancer Center and Penrose Hospital for their compassionate support and care. Memorial Service will be 11:00AM, Saturday, September 20, 2014 at The Springs Funeral Services, 3115 East Plate Avenue.
