Richard Alcantar
September 11th, 1962 - December 20th, 2023
Richard, beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, tio and everyone’s friendly neighbor, passed away from this life on Wednesday, December 20, 2023, at age 61. Richard, a lifelong resident of Mesa, was born on September 11, 1962, to Herminio G. and Estela (Trevino) Alcantar, and lived the first few years of his life in Mesa’s Little Juarez barrio. He leaves behind his wife of 36 years, Christina Munoz Alcantar, sons Simon (Michelle), Mario, and Richard Alcantar, grandchildren Danity, Cristiana, Kristian and Andreas, brothers Herman Jr. (Debbie), David (Elizabeth), and Ramon (Mona), sisters Mary Stella Barriga (Mike), and Siboney Castillo, brothers-in-law Nabor Hernandez (Juanita Alcantar), Joe Berta (Gloria Alcantar), and many nieces and nephews. Richard was predeceased by his parents, sisters Juanita and Gloria, brother Rudy, and nephew Aaron J. Alcantar. Richard worked in the construction field and was known for his willingness to lend a helping hand to those in need. He had a giving heart. As a young boy, he popped wheelies on his bike with such precision and skill that he earned the admiration of his buddies. As a young man he then discovered his love for low riders and eventually owned one. As he matured into a man, he discovered a love for golf and fishing that lasted throughout his life. These outlets, along with a winning smile, allowed him the opportunity to meet and make new friends. Richard’s absence on this earth is, and will always be, deeply felt. A rosary and viewing will be held at Meldrum Mortuary, 52 N. Macdonald, in Mesa on Thursday, January 4, 2024, from 6:00-8:00 p.m. A funeral mass will be held at Queen of Peace Catholic Church, 141 N. Macdonald, Mesa, at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, January 5, 2024. Interment will be at Queen of Heaven Cemetery, 1562 E. Baseline Rd., Mesa, following the Mass at 11:30 a.m. Following the burial a reception for family and friends will be provided in the Welcome Center at Queen of Peace Catholic Church
