Richard Bloom
January 18th, 1929 - March 8th, 2011
Age 82, most recently of Denver, Colorado, passed away on Tuesday, March 8, 2011 after a long battle with Parkinson’s disease. Beloved husband of the late Miriam Eshleman Bloom; loving father of Jay Bloom, James Bloom, and Judy Bloom; proud grandfather of Jack Harris, Taylor Bloom, Elliott Bloom, Dillon Harris, and Olivia Bloom. Richard served in occupied Berlin post – WWII as a member of the U.S. Army Band (drums). He graduated from Westminster College, Pennsylvania in 1953. An avid road runner, in 1996 he was inducted into the Westminster College Sports Hall of Fame (Track and Field/Cross Country). He spent most of hiscareer as a cancer researcher for Wyeth Laboratories, Marietta and Radnor, Pennsylvania. After retiring, Rich moved to Indian Rocks Beach, Florida where he alternated between training for marathons, surf fishing, and bird watching. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Suncoast Bird Sanctuary http://www.seabirdsanctuary.com/ A memorial will be held on April 15, 2011.
