Richard Gary Kemp, 60, of Floodwood passed away Wednesday, Jan. 21, 2009 in his home after a lengthy illness. He was born April 6, 1948 in Duluth to Rudy and Mae Kemp. Richard served in the U.S. Army from 1967 until 1970. He was employed by Bailey Logging, Suonvieri Logging, Floodwood Industries, and C.W. Rautio. Richard enjoyed many outdoor activities and being around his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents. Richard is survived by his ex-wife, caretaker and best friend, Olga Kemp; daughters, Laura Snaza and Linda Powers; son, Richard (Bryanna); sons-in-law, Mark Snaza and Dennis Powers; mother-in-law, Sophie Karkiainen; sister, Nancy Karkiainen, brothers, Daryl Kemp and Dan (Judy) Wiljanen; half-sister, Carolyn (Tom) Riley; grandchildren, Candace, Cristyna, Tanya, Daniel, Jessica, Janelle, A.J., Alea, Brenna, and Jayna; great grandchildren, Makenzie, Emma, and Davion; special friends and helpers, Chad Kessey, Bill Hakala, and Bea Savage; and many other friends and relatives. Memorial Service were held on Monday, Jan. 26, 2009 in the Atkins-Northland Funeral Home, 801 14th St. in Cloquet. Military Honors were accorded by the Cloquet Combined Honor Guard.
