Robert Stephen Bruce
April 18th, 1963 - November 16th, 2023
Robert Stephen Bruce began life, Thurs evening, 18April1963, in Radford, VA. Thurs evening, 16Nov2023, in Columbia, SC, Stephen was hit by an SUV while helping a handicapped elderly lady navigate from a bus stop to her nearby house. Stephen was killed instantly; the lady recovered. Steve saved my life, said the lady; he pushed me, so I didn’t get hurt that much. That was Steve’s final mortal conversation with life; an act of moral courage. Steve is survived by two sons, Ian, and Gedas; two daughters, Amy and Angelena; granddaughter, Mila; parents, Connie and Robert F. Bruce; and brother, Ian. His trusted Mentor, Scout, a gentle Boykin Spaniel, preceded him in death. Although at a distance, Steve’s beloved children and grandchild were always in his heart. Steve graduated from North Hunterdon High, Clinton NJ. He attended North Carolina State University, Raleigh, NC, where he pursued a degree in Mathematics Education. Steve also attended Indiana University (distance education) for Computer Technician Certification. And, he completed Vocational Training (Ridgeland SCC) for appliance repair and carpentry. Steve loved all animals, and the beauty of the natural world. He could fix anything, PCs, cars, appliances. His antique restoration skills were well known; he loved woodworking. Steve was also a devoted in-home caregiver. He was interested in South Carolina Caregiver Training & Certification for Home-Care. In remembrance, please donate to the Humane Society of Greenwood, SC, 29649.

We Entrusted Robert Bruce's Care To
Greenlawn Memorial Park
Greenlawn Memorial Park is one of Columbia's most historic perpetual care cemeteries. This gorgeous setting combines serenity, natural beauty, and diligent care for generations of families. North Lake, located in the center of our park, offers a water feature and is the site of many local events, including an annual Easter sunrise service, a Greenlawn tradition for over 50 years. The park also has a veteran's section, private family estates, a columbarium with niches for cremated remains, and an incredible granite mausoleum....
