Robert H. Exner
November 24th, 1924 - December 29th, 2015
Robert Herman ""Bob"" Exner, 91, entered into his Heavenly home on Tuesday, December 29, 2015. Born in Fort Wayne, Indiana, Bob graduated from CentralHigh School. He entered the military and served in the Army Air Force as a Staff Sergeant in both World War II and the Korean War. Bob faithfully worked for the U.S. Postal Service for over 30 years, becoming the Superintendent of Motor Vehicle Operations for Northeast Indiana. He retired to Venice, Florida, in 1982. Once in Florida, he cultivated his love of flying and received his pilot's license, piloting Cessna and Piper aircraft, etc. He also enjoyed working outdoors at the Venice Flying Service, fueling aircraft and meeting other pilots. He was a member of AOPA, Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association. Another passion of Bob's was travel. He journeyed through 49 of our 50 states: all of the continental states and Alaska, and into Canada. Some of the highlights for him were visiting Mt.St. Helens in Montana; exploring Quebec, Canada; driving up Pikes Peak in Colorado, and flying on a mail plane in Alaska. Bob was an avid American History buff. He loved reading and studying about his heroes in the Revolutionary War, the Civil War, and World War II, as well as each of our presidents. He visited many of their homes including his favorite which was Monticello, various historical landmarks, and numerous Civil War battlefields. He was a Friend of Jefferson's PoplarForest. A big Indy and NASCAR fan, Bob could also play the piano by ear. He loved listening to jazz, and taking daily walks on the beach. But most importantly, Bob was a committed Christian and followed Jesus Christ as his Savior. Bible reading and prayer were important to him. Bob adored his family, and is survived by his loving children: son Steven Robert (Susan Eardley, Bob's dedicated caregiver for several years), daughter Angela (David) Holt of Saint Johns, Florida; beloved grandchildren Rachel Elizabeth Holt and Daniel David Holt of Saint Johns, Florida; devoted sister Eleen Hall of Fort Wayne, Indiana; former wife and loving friend Janis Kvintus of Seminole, Florida; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, Herman Carl and Della Angela Didrick Exner, his twin Roland, brothers Carl, Earl, and Glenn, and sisters Lillian and Kathleen.
