WEST COLUMBIA: Graveside service for Robert C. Gibbs, 89, will be held at 12 Noon Saturday, October 13, 2012, in Greenlawn Memorial Park, officiated by Mark Bredholt. The family will receive friends from 6 until 7:30 pm Friday evening at Thompson Funeral Home of Lexington. Mr. Gibbs died at home Thursday, October 11, 2012. Born in Hobart, Indiana, he was the son of the late Elmer Lee Gibbs and Ruth Van Scyoc Gibbs. He was retired from Richland School District #1 as Director of Buildings, Grounds and Maintenance. Prior to Richland #1, he was Director of Buildings, Grounds and Maintenance for the Gary, Indiana Public School System. Mr. Gibbs was a U.S. Army Veteran of WWII. Survivors include his daughters, Kathleen Conti (Christopher) of Garden City and Debra Gibbs of Summerville. He was preceded in death by his wife, Phyllis Gibbs.
