Robert Jones
January 5th, 1936 - October 30th, 2012
Robert Claude Jones, of Santee Cooper Country Club, Santee, SC and formerly of Hilton Head Island, SC, passed away October 30, 2012. Bob was born in Detroit, Michigan on January 5, 1936 to the late Claude and Edna Kilgore Jones and was predeceased by his only sibling, his brother Raleigh Jones. Bob retired from the Federal Aviation Administration after 24 years of service as a Radar Approach Controller. He was also a commercial pilot. During the Korean War, he served four years in the United States Air Force as an Air Traffic Controller. Bob was an avid golfer having scored four holes in one and a member of the NRA. He was devoted to his family and especially loved his ten grandchildren and his seven great-grand children. He will be greatly missed by his wife of 27 years and best pal, Shirley. Surviving Bob are his three daughters and his sons-in-law Deborah and David Anderson of Irmo, SC; Dana and Bob Hankins of Charlotte, NC; and Kathleen and Tom Furlong of Louisville, KY; and his son and daughter-in-law Lt. Col. R. Curtis and Kristi Jones of Anderson, SC. He is also survived by his step-daughter Cynthia and her husband Thomas "Woody" Woodham of Chapin, SC and his step-son Michael and his wife Mary Ann Monroe of Columbia, SC as well as his lifelong friend, Wynona Jones. Burial will be at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, November 2, 2012 at Fort Jackson National Cemetery, with his grandchildren serving as honorary pallbearers. The family sincerely appreciates the kind and loving care extended to Bob by the staff of Palmetto Health Richland Hospital and requests any memorials be made to Palmetto Health Hospice, PO Box 7275, Columbia, SC 29202-7275.

Greenlawn Memorial Park is one of Columbia's most historic perpetual care cemeteries. This gorgeous setting combines serenity, natural beauty, and diligent care for generations of families. North Lake, located in the center of our park, offers a water feature and is the site of many local events, including an annual Easter sunrise service, a Greenlawn tradition for over 50 years.
