Robert "Bob" Gustav Nyberg

Robert (Bob) Gustav Nyberg, age 82 of Venice, Florida passed away on May 18, 2023. He was born in New York, NY on June 6, 1940. Bob was a resident of Nesconset, NY and Sterling, VA before moving to Venice in 2000. He was Director of Contracts for Grumman Aerospace for 35 years and retired in 1994. Bob served in the Air National Guard & Air Force from 1961-1967 and earned the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal. Bob enjoyed coaching his sons through their childhood in baseball and basketball. A longstanding member of the American Legion Bob also served his communities in various ways including many years volunteering delivering for Meals on Wheels. His sports passions were the Brooklyn Dodgers, New York Giants, New York Mets and when moving to Florida became an avid fan of the Tampa Bay Rays and Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Elizabeth Ann Nyberg; sons, Robert (Renee) Nyberg of New Bern, NC, Richard (Stacy) Nyberg of Kennesaw, GA and James (Alice-Anne) Nyberg of Westerly, RI. Bob also leaves behind his granddaughters, Shelby & Abigail (Richard/Stacy) and Anna/Erica (James/Alice-Anne). Bob was preceded in death by his parents Gustav & Hilja Nyberg who’s only child was Bob. A visitation will be held from 4:00PM - 6:00PM on Tuesday, May 23, 2023 at Farley Funeral Home in Venice. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Epiphany Cathedral in Venice on Wednesday, May 24, 2023 at 11:00AM with a graveside service with military honors to follow at 1:00PM at Sarasota National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Bob’s memory to Shriner’s Hospital for Children (https://donate.lovetotherescue.org) & St. Jude Hospital for Children (https://www.stjude.org).
