Robert G. Woodring
August 20th, 1945 - March 8th, 2017
Robert G. Woodring, 71, of Davenport, FL was born on 8/20/45 in his grandmother's home in Fremont, MI to F. Arnold and Mildred Woodring. He passed away under hospice care on 3/8/17 due to complications of DISH (Forestier Disease) a progressive disease which was diagnosed in 1989 and forced his disability retirement in 1990. In his youth, Bob, was active in Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts. He always had a passion for photography and painting. He was self taught in painting by taking several art workshops over the years to hone his skills. Over the years he was recognized for his writing accomplishments, having articles, poems and short stories published. Some of his Accomplishments include: BA from Wayne State University 1983 in Mass Communications MFA from the University of Michigan in 1985 in Creative Writing During his working years, he had many professions, most notable were, Writer/Photographer for the Greenville Daily News in Greenville, MI; Photographer and Photographic Supervisor for the Observer and Eccentric Newspapers in Livonia, MI; a portrait and wedding photographer -- Woodring House of Photography -- in Plymouth, MI; and Methodist minister, serving two congregations in Athens and Battle Creek, MI. His hobbies included digital photography and signature membership in the Professional Photographers Society of Central Florida where he won several awards for his photography. He was also actively involved with the Florida Watercolor Society, winning awards for his watercolor paintings. He was a signature member of NAPA (National Acrylic Painters Association). He had two paintings accepted into the archives of the Tate Gallery in London, England. He spent two years in the Michigan National Guard before his honorable discharge in 1967. Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Mildred and F. Arnold Woodring; nephew, Scott and a great nephew, Nathaniel. He is survived by his wife, Janet; son, Nicholas and his wife, Ana; brothers, Gerald (Shirley), Richard (Theresa) and John (Bonnie); ten nieces and nephews and several great nieces and nephews. Following cremation, a memorial service will be held on April 14, 2017 at 2 pm at Oak Ridge Funeral Care, Haines City, FL. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made in Bob's name to Boy Scouts of America or to a charity of your choice. Condolences via www.oakridgefuneralcare.com
