Rodney Dale Norman of Thornton Colorado passed away unexpectantly on April 15, 2018, at the age of 63. He was born on June 4, 1954, in Denver Colorado and is preceded in death by his parents, Roy F Norman and Dorothy J (Holland) Norman of Commerce City Colorado. He graduated from Adams City High School and joined the United States Navy shortly after. He served his country from 1972-1976 on the USS Hancock and was a member of the VF-24 Fighting Red Checkertails. The USS Hancock was instrumental in the evacuation of Vietnam after the fall of Saigon. After his honorable discharge from the US Navy he was employed as a forklift mechanic, sales of forklift service, owned his own fence construction business and as a current was a kitchen designer with Home Depot, his “fun” job. He loved spending time at the family place on Lake Granby, fishing, enjoying the beautiful Colorado mountains and riding his Harley. Rod was an active member of the American Legion Post 22, The American Legion Riders and participated in many events helping other veterans. Rod and his loving wife, Bretta (Peterson) were married in 1981. He is survived by Bretta, sons Adam, Marc (Katelyn) and his sweet granddaughter Mellie. In addition, he is survived by his brother Randal Norman (Susan), sisters Shirley Norman and Susan Perrine (Dave). He leaves behind many family, friends and his extended family of the American Legion Post 22 and the American Legion Riders. A private service will be held at Fort Logan National Cemetery with military honors. A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
