Roger J. Reid Sr
June 20th, 1939 - February 14th, 2021
Roger J Reid Sr. passed away on 2/14/21 at the age of 81. Roger was born on June 20, 1939 in Brooklyn NY. He was the son of Stephen and Rose (Maher) Reid. He grew up in Floral Park, Long Island NY and graduated from Sewanhaka HS in 1956. Roger proudly served in the United States Air Force from 1956 -1961, being stationed in Spokane Washington and Minot North Dakota. After the Air Force he returned to NY with his wife Carol (deceased) and his infant daughter Janet. Roger worked at Pan American World Airways as Manager of Material and Logistic Support at JFK airport. He enjoyed his career at Pan Am as it allowed him to travel internationally with his family. In 1960 Roger joined the Knights of Columbus and continued to be an active member, recently serving as The Faithful Scribe. Roger joined the International Order of Alhambra, a fraternal organization dedicated to assisting intellectually disabled persons, in 1970 and held every elected office in the organization, culminating with the highest office of Supreme Commander. He was professed as a Secular Franciscan in 2013 and belonged to the Blessed Solanus Casey Fraternity in Venice Florida. He was serving most recently as the Minister of the Fraternity. Roger was proud of his Irish heritage and his Catholic faith, and recently became a member of the Ancient Order of Hibernians, St Finninan of Clonard Division. Roger is survived by his wife Agnes, children Janet (Michael) Gaeta, Eileen (Robert) Thompson, Roger J Reid Jr., and Maureen Nixon. Stepchildren: Stanley (Meredith) Tytko, Stephen (Sherry) Tytko and Janette (Stephen, deceased) Hess. Grandchildren: Anthony (Marissa), Christopher (Kristina), Stephen (Anna), Michelle (Raymond), John, Calvin, Owen, Brandon, Michael, Stephen, Claire, Douglas and Amy. Great Grandchildren Lucas, Jonathan, Madison and baby Caroline, Lily, and Gabe. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews, a large extended family and many friends. He is already greatly missed by his faithful dog, Ralph. Roger is preceded in death by his younger brother Donald Reid, and both of his parents. A Memorial Mass will be held at Epiphany Cathedral Catholic Church in Venice on March 16 at 10 am. Roger will be laid to rest at Sarasota National Cemetery following the mass on March 16. Live streaming will be offered for those friends and family members who are unable to attend. The family asks that in lieu of flowers to please consider making contributions in Roger's memory to the Order of Alhambra.
