Ronald E. Berry
September 29th, 1946 - November 2nd, 2015
Ron Berry was born in Carmel, Calif. on September 29, 1946 to Don and Barbara Berry. Ron passed away on November 2, 2015 after a long illness, surround by his loving family. Ron was a lifelong resident of Carmel, where he attended Sunset and Woods School and was a 1964 graduate of Carmel High School. Ron was an exceptional tennis player in his early years playing at Carmel High School and Monterey Peninsula College. Ron worked side-by-side with his father at the family business, Redwood Heating and Sheet Metal. Upon Don's retirement Ron took over the business and worked for many years until his retirement in 2000. Ron was a master mechanic and always took pride in his work. He had many passions in his life, he enjoyed his weekly matches with his tennis buddies, he was an usher at the Carmel Mission for 22 years, and he formed amazing friendships that he cherished, including his First Monday Group. Ron was also a talented artist, he created exquisite metal sculptures and loved creating artwork copper, he always shared creations with his friends. There are many homes in our community where you can find one of Ron's copper bows hanging in it. Ron was generous, giving, caring and full of love and compassion for all. Ron was always there to help others in need, and he loved to strike up conversations with whoever was near and would always bring a smile to their face. He was a kind soul and gave the best warm hugs. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends, but never forgotten. Ron is survived by his wife Claire of 34 years, his father Don Berry, his stepmother Mary Ann Berry of Carmel, and his sister Barbara Benson of Iowa. He is also survived by his daughters Amanda and Amee, and grandkids Hayden, Ava, and Sadee of Reno, NV, and stepdaughter Kim Chiewpanich and granddaughter Dillan and Jordan of Carmel. He is also survived by his brothers-in-law John (Marie) and Michael (Vicki) Odello and their families. Ron was preceded in death by his mother Barbara Berry and his sister Debra Reeves. Services will be held at the Carmel Mission Basilica on November 11, 2015 at 11 am.
