Rosalie Hill
October 25th, 1921 - August 9th, 2018
Rosalie Alexander was born October 25, 1921 to Clara Olson and George Alexander. She was born in Big Cotton Wood Canyon, Salt Lake City, Utah. She had a fun childhood in Salt Lake City with her parents and three siblings. After graduating from high school Rosalie attended college in Pennsylvania. After College, she and her best friend, Ila, moved to Washington D.C. where she proudly worked for a senator. She and her girlfriends met a group of Army Soldiers. They all went on a picnic and the most handsome Soldier, Nelson, jumped in the car next to Rosalie. It was love at first sight. While courting Nelson, he had to go off to WW II. She promised to wait for him, and she did. While waiting, Rosalie relocated to San Francisco, she fell in love with San Francisco and thought she would spend the rest of her life there. She quickly found employment at S &W Fine Foods as secretary to the owner. Nelson returned from the war safely. They were married June 1, 1946 in San Francisco. They traveled to Ohio where he proudly introduced his bride to his family. Their Army adventure had just begun. Their first duty station was in Charleston, South Carolina, next assignment was Lima, Peru, where Nelson Jr. was born. Next assignment was Boston, Massachusetts, where Jennifer was born. Next assignment was Alaska where Timothy was born. Next assignment was Virginia where Cynthia was born. The magnificent assignments continued to Hawaii, Indiana, Virginia, and Colorado. The Hill’s did a great deal of traveling with the military. Rosalie was so strong, independent, who guided her children during the TDY travels. Rosalie was a dedicated wife, phenomenal mother just an incredible person. She always guided us through life teaching us the correct way, the Godly way, and was a wonderful inspiration to her family and others. Rosalie loved flowers. For forty plus years Rosalie belonged to Ikebana ( Japanese Flower Arranging). Ikenobo and Sogetsu schools were her favorite. She traveled and studied in Japan with the professors of Ikebana. Her arrangements were so enjoyable. Rosalie was an educated woman full of compassion, love, kindness and humor. Rosalie had Christ in her life. She was a true Christian. Rosalie died in the comfort of her home with her cat, Nipper, her daughter, Cindy, and family close friend Mary McCrindle at her side. Rosalie is survived by her cat Nipper, who never left her side or lap, her children Nelson Jr. (Alice), Jennifer, Tim (Pricilla), and Cindy, three grandchildren, Alexandra, Andrew, and Blake and three greatgrand children, nieces, and many friends. Rosalie was preceded in death by her parents, three siblings, her husband of 47 years, COL Nelson B. Hill, and her son-in-law, Jake.
