Rosalio "Leo" Matus

Rosalio “Leo” Matus Sr was born on September 4th, 1948, in Scottsdale, AZ. He lost his battle to Cancer (RCC) on Friday, December 4th, 2020, in Chandler, AZ. He passed away peacefully while surrounded by his loved ones. He was predeceased by his parents, Silverio Matuz and Feliciana Alvarez. Leo is survived by his wife of 53 years, Ramona Bustillos Matus. Daughters, Maria Patricia Sanchez (Ramon Sr), Ursula Matus, Norma Luisa Matus (Guillermo), and sons Rosalio “Leito” Matus Jr and Joe Moreno. Grandchildren, Ramon Sanchez Jr, Lupe Sanchez, Pete Sanchez, Samuel Sanchez Sr, Pauly Hernandez, Loren Matus, Maritza Matus, Clarissa Dominguez, and Deveanna Valenzuela. He had 13 great children and other extended “grandkids”. He truly enjoyed his sports, baseball and especially football. He was one of the most die-hard Dallas Cowboys fans at the objection of his family, which brought on many “heated” discussions and ended with his notable laugh. Leo was a cement finisher for many years. Was a truck driver for Ted Levine Drumming Co and retired from the City of Phoenix as a Sanitation Engineer. After his retirement, he enjoyed spending time sitting in his car while sipping on his daily cup of coffee reading his newspaper all the while enjoying his Elvis Presley and Freddie Fender. When not in his car, you could find him in his favorite chair, remote at hand, watching his tv shows. He enjoyed watching his hot rod makeover, Storage Wars, and Wheel of Fortune (Vanna White, wink wink). He may have been a ‘grumpy ol man’ but had the biggest heart. He accepted everyone into his home, which, once you stepped into his home you became a part of his family. He will truly be missed by all, which includes many friends and extended family. Services will be held on Friday, December 11th, 2020 at the Matus Residence, 5611 E Calle Mexico, Guadalupe AZ 85283. An all night vigil service will begin at 5pm. Mass will be on Saturday, December 12th, 2020 at 8:30a, at his residence. Guadalupe Klassic Car Club will then escort him to his final resting place at the Guadalupe Cementary, 4649 S Beck Ave, Tempe AZ 85282. We, the Matus family, want to thank all the providers who took care of our Matriarch. And also thank you to all his friends and family who reached out to us in this difficult time.
