Russell Dean Grover
August 4th, 1924 - August 15th, 2015
Russell Dean Grover, 91, of Carlton, died Saturday, August 15, 2015 in Inter-Faith Care Center, Carlton. He was born on August 4, 1924 in Wrenshall, the son of Hubert and Roverda Grover. Russ was a 1942 graduate of Wrenshall High School. He proudly served in the US Army during WWII and was discharged with the rank of Tech 5. Russ married Marcella Kolb on July 26, 1947. Russell was co-owner of the Carlton Feed Mill for many years. He was a member of Carlton VFW Post 2962 and served as its' commander from 1982 - 1983. Russ was also a charter member of the Carlton Lion's Club and a member of St. Francis Catholic Church. He enjoyed fishing, playing cribbage, woodworking, traveling, and spending time in the Rio Grande Valley in Texas. Russ also enjoyed polka music and he loved to dance. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Marcella; sisters, Janice Grover and Maxine Rousu; brother, Richard Grover; grandson, David Ryan Hopp; and son-in-law, Raymond Hopp. Russell will be missed by his children, Mary Hopp of Wrenshall, Greg (Chris), Russ, Jr. (Sue), Brad (Dawn), and Dan (Sue), all of Carlton; 16 grandchildren; 22 great grandchildren with one due in September; one great great grandson; brothers, Clifford of Cloquet, Dale (Shirley) of Carlton and Eldon (Karen) of Wrenshall; sisters, Ruth Bartch, Margaret Veilleux and Genevieve Thompson, all of Carlton, Donna Frigon of Cloquet, and Virginia (Bob) Sorenson of Moraga, CA; sister-in-law, Betty Grover of Cloquet; and many nieces and nephews. A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial was held on Thursday, August 20, 2015 in St. Francis Catholic Church, Carlton. Inurnment followed in Hillside Cemetery, Carlton, with military honors accorded by Nicholson-Sellgren VFW Post 2962. Memorials may be made to St. Francis Catholic Church or Carlton Lion's Club.
