Ruth M. Karki, 95 of Cromwell passed away on Thursday, February 2, 2017 in Villa Vista Care Center in Cromwell. She was born September 18, 1921 in Salo Township to Axel and Mary Aho. She was raised in Kettle River, attended Kalevala Elementary and graduated from Cromwell High School in 1938. Ruth married Edward Karki on July 23, 1941. Ruth and Ed farmed together south of Cromwell, milking Holsteins, raising black angus beef cattle and small grain crops. Ruth loved the outdoors. Summer found her gardening and picking berries, canning and freezing vegetables, and berries in the fall, snowmobiling in the winter, and working as a seasonal employee at General Andrew's Tree Nursery in the spring. Ruth was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church in Cromwell. She will be remembered for her hospitality, especially that of coffee, baked goods, and conversation served around her kitchen table. Ruth was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Edward; four brothers, infants, Carlo and Matti, Woodrow and Clarence Aho; sister, Ethel Rinta; grandson, Keith Olson; nephews, John Aho and Sherman Rinta; and great niece, Skye Robin Rinta. She is survived by two daughters, Karen (William) Maki of Nevis and Kathy (Dwight) Olson of Cromwell; three grandchildren, Todd (Amy) Maki, Chris (Stephanie) Maki and Carol (Brett) Tamminen; seven great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. The family would like to express their thanks and heartfelt gratitude to the staff of Villa Vista Care Center for their loving attention and care given to Ruth. Visitation: 10 until the 11:00 a.m. Memorial Service Saturday, February 11, 2017 in Atkins Northland Funeral Home, Cloquet. Inurnment will be in the spring in West Branch Cemetery, Kettle River.
