Sam Fuller was born May 17, 1946 in Denver, Colorado the son of Thornton and Gretel Fuller. Sam’s father was owner and operator of a prominent Denver enterprise, Thornton Fuller Interior Design. Sam’s grandfather, Dr. Rudolf Arndt was a respected surgeon, well known in early Denver medical circles. His uncle, Burnham Hoyt was an architect whose historic design work included Red Rocks amphitheatre, the original Denver Public Library, and numerous elegant Denver mansions. Sam passed away Wednesday, October 29, at Rose Hospital after a prolonged two-year battle with cancer. He is survived by his wife, Loren, brother Jonathan Fuller, sister-in-law Katherine Fuller, and nieces Heather and Laurel Fuller. A graduate of Denver’s South High School class of 1964, Sam was a bass player in a number of local bands including The Rainy Daze. That band was the opening group for one of the first Denver performances by the Rolling Stones. The Rainy Daze also appeared with other nationally known groups such as the Beau Brummels, The Kinks, and Boulder’s own, The Astronauts. They recorded their first album on the Uni lable, “Acapulco Gold”, which was produced in Los Angeles by veteran rock producer Phil Spectre. Sam served three years of active duty in the U.S.Army from 1967 to 1970, including a year-long stint in South Viet Nam where he fought in combat with U.S. troops. His valor in battle earned him a number of war medals including a Bronze Star for exceptional bravery in battle. After returning from Viet Nam, Sam attended the University of Colorado in Boulder for several years. He began his life-long career as a radio and TV advertising executive in 1973 including jobs at KFML and KIMN radio, KWGN-TV Channel 2, and later as Sales Manager for Univision TV. He also worked in TV advertising in Los Angeles and San Antonio as a national sales representative. An avid golfer, Sam worked as a Vice-President of Marketing for the golf firm, National Golf media, prior to be stricken with lymphoma in December of 2006. Samuel Fuller will be buried with full military honors, Thursday, November 6, 2008, 1:15 pm at Fort Logan cemetery, staging area C. He will be remembered fondly by friends and family for his quick wit, engaging manner, and stellar character. He has been, and always will be, a true hero to all who knew him.
