COLUMBIA: A funeral service celebrating the life of Sgt. Charles Edwin Coltrain, 83, (U.S. Army, Ret.) of Columbia will be held at 12:30 p.m. Monday, May 13, 2013 at Woodfield Park Baptist Church with Pastor Jeff Phillips and Reverend Charles Miller officiating. Full military honors and interment will follow at Fort Jackson National Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Saturday afternoon at Greenlawn Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Woodfield Park Baptist Church, 1834 Morninglo Lane, Columbia, SC 29223 or The Parkinson's Association, 5970 Fairview Road, Suite 217, Charlotte, NC 28210 in Charles's memory. Sgt. Coltrain departed this earthly life on Wednesday, May 8, 2013. He was born in Jamesville, NC to the late Ira and Collie Lilly Coltrain. Sgt. Coltrain retired from the United States Army after 23 years of dedicated service to our country in which he served during the Vietnam War. After retirement from the U.S. Army, Sgt. Coltrain was employed with the SCDPT in which he retired after 23 years. He was a member of Woodfield Park Baptist Church and Fort Jackson Lodge #374. He was also a life member of the VFW Post 641 and the Lake Murray Boating and Sports Club. Sgt. Coltrain was predeceased by four siblings. Surviving are his loving and devoted wife of 55 years, Jeanette Ford Coltrain; daughters, Kathy Coltrain and Tina Coltrain Lovejoy (Rickey); a sister, Barbara Janson (Russ); a brother-in-law, Clifton Ward; a host of other loving relatives and friends that will miss him dearly. Charles Edwin Coltrain was a loving husband and father. A special thanks is extended to the nurses at White Oak Manor, 2nd floor and particularly Jenny Rosson for their loving care they gave Charles. Also special appreciation for the doctors and nurses of hospice care at Warrior Walk at the Dorn VA Medical Center. Charles went to his heavenly home with peace and dignity.
