Shashi Gulati
October 8th, 1945 - July 23rd, 2023
Shashi Gulati (Anand) left this earthly life on July 23, 2023, after battling congestive heart disease which led to a stroke. She was born October 8th, 1945, in Jammu City, India to Vidyawati (Chadha) and Sunder Das Anand who preceded her in death along with her beloved sisters Santosh Kumari Anand and Ved Kumari Dham. Shashi’s parents moved to Delhi, India when she was a toddler. Shashi loved singing and music, was a talented cook, and an expert at knitting. She went to school in Delhi, India and graduated from High School in Delhi in 1962. Shashi earned her B.A. from the University of Delhi, India (1965), M.A. in languages from the University of Delhi, India (1967) and a post-graduate degree in Education from the Agra University, India (1968). During her time at University of Delhi, she was an active member of the National Cadets Corps, a track athlete, and pursued singing at informal events. After completing her post-graduate degree in India, she married her childhood sweetheart, and husband, Virendra Kumar Gulati on November 17th, 1968, at the age of 23 years. They would have been married for fifty-five years in November of 2023. They resided in Agra, India for seven years. They then moved to Indore, India and lived there for thirteen years. Subsequently they moved to Delhi, India and resided there for thirty-five years. Shashi was a devoted daughter, sister, mother, grandmother, and wife. She was a natural caregiver and nurturer and cared deeply for her family. She always put her family and children before her own comfort and needs. She was an excellent homemaker and devoted her days to making a comfortable home for her family. Her talent for making delicious meals was known far and beyond and many a guests enjoyed her hospitality and cooking. She loved taking care of plants and flowers and enjoyed admiring a variety of colorful blooms. Shashi traveled across India extensively and across the United States with her children who lived in Atlanta, Gorgia; Rochester, Minnesota; Colorado Springs, Colorado; and Seattle, Washington. She loved being out in nature and enjoyed the beauty and calm that the outdoors offered. Shashi will be remembered for her sharp wit, her kindness, her grace and style, her tenacity and steadfast love and devotion to her family. Shashi is survived by her daughters, Sumedha (Alan) Penheiter Gulati, and Suparna (Sridhar) Venna; her son, Sumeet (Nicole) Gulati; her grandchildren, Sonya, Sasha, Arnav, Vihaan, Sakshee, Nishtha, and Vidya. Please plant a tree in memory of Shashi Gulati or provide meals at a soup kitchen in your area of residence.
