Born September 11, 1953, in Houston Tx, to WM and Doris Cannon and died in Lakeland, Fl on June 12, 2016. A viewing will be held Friday, June 17, 2016 from 5-7PM at the Day Funeral Home chapel in Madisonville, TX. The funeral service will be Saturday June 18, 2016 at the First Baptist Church in Madisonville at 1PM with another viewing prior to the service starting at 11AM. Seddrick Eddington will officiate. Generous, genuine, compassionate, loving, fiercely loyal are a few words that only begin to describe the woman that was Sherry Sims. But they don't come close as she was so much more. Born 9-11-53 to WM and Doris Cannon and died 6-12-16. She had three brothers Paul, Travis and Keith. She met Berry Sims at the ripe age of 20 and knew this was the man she would marry, and she did, four months later. She had two daughters and delighted at watching them grow into two very different but equally amazing women. Courtney and Rio DeLeon were the first to give her grandchildren and she would brag and tell everyone she met all about her Teslyn and her Luke. Rio DeLeon was the son she never had and gained through marriage. Not to be outdone, Christy surprised everyone with a bundle of joy just at the time she thought she had all the grandkids she was getting. Cannon came and captured a piece of her heart. She is a shining example of unconditional love both to her husband, family and to anyone she met. There was never a holiday where there wasn't a new face at the house of someone she encountered who was facing a holiday alone. She simply wouldn't hear of it and they became family. She paid her way through college making cakes. She became a nurse and continued to serve others. After enduring a car accident in which she broke her back and neck, she fought back and continued to persevere. While laying in a hospital bed recovering the kids were brought to her for a visit. The first words out of her mouth were what happened to their hair. It seems Christy was checking out a career in hair styling and had removed Courtney's bangs completely and had made her own into what can only be described as a jack o lantern. We still don't know how Nannie or Dad didn't notice. After getting both of her children through Texas A&M, she started a new career as an insurance adjuster still working hard at helping people. She never met a stranger, was always kind to others and taught everyone around her the true meaning of love. She always had an open heart and a love for Disney. Her favorite thing to do was find a special child on Facebook and treat them to a Disney surprise. She delighted in seeing the joy in a child's face when a box of Disney Magic was delivered. She invited every person with small children to come stay at her home in Florida so they could visit the Mouse. She was a wife, mother, daughter, sister and friend and the world is a much darker place without her. My only respite in this storm is that she has joined once again with her father and brother on the other side. That she runs freely through the streets of heaven without the pain that plagued her here on earth. She was taken from us way to soon but will live forever in our hearts and stories.
