Shirley Bosshard Grossman
June 16th, 1928 - April 24th, 2018
Shirley Grossman, formerly of Jacksonville Florida, died peacefully in her sleep on April 24, 2018 in Denver, Colorado. A native of Kansas City, Missouri, Shirley attended the University of Kansas where she received a bachelor’s degree in statistics. She earned her pilot’s license as a young adult and after college pursued a career with the US government. Shirley met her husband Philip while working for the US Department of Labor in Washington, DC and they were married in 1956. They began their family in 1960 and Shirley devoted herself to raising her three children. When Philip retired in 1979, they moved to Sarasota, FL., and then in 2011, the couple relocated to Jacksonville, FL. Philip predeceased Shirley in 2015. They were happily married for 59 years. She is survived by her children: Richard Reichler (Michelle McDonough) of Denver, Colorado; Diana Simpson (Scott Simpson) of Auburn, Alabama; Nancy Grossman (Everett Porter) of Soest, the Netherlands; and four grandchildren – Scott and Claire Simpson and Lucy and David Porter. Shirley also had many friendships over the years. She truly touched many lives and will be sorely missed. A graveside service will be held at the Jacksonville National Cemetery in Jacksonville, Florida at 10:00 am on June 4th, 2018. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Sulzbacher Center for the homeless in Jacksonville, FL at: www.sulzbachercenter.org
