Shirley Ilean Hunt, 82 of Cloquet passed away on Monday, February 4, 2019 in Augustana Health Care Center in Moose Lake. She was born March 5, 1936 in Carlton to Clarence and Violet (Fisher) Rowell. Shirley grew up in the Smithville area of Duluth. On December 16, 1953 she married Lester Hunt. In the mid 1970's, Shirley got her nursing certificate. She worked as a LPN at St. Luke's Hospital for twenty years. Shirley enjoyed sewing and doing crafts and passed these skills onto her grandchildren. When her children were growing up, she was a 4-H Leader. Shirley and Lester were foster parents to many children. Kim and Marsha were two very special foster daughters. Shirley was preceded in death by two sons, Richard and Steven Hunt; two sisters, Janice and Linda; and her foster daughter, Tina Goodman. She is survived and will be sadly missed by her husband of 65 years, Lester; daughter, Ginny (Gene) Knudsen of Schroeder; sons, Lester (Cindy) Hunt Jr. of Sierra Vista, AZ and Andrew (Lisa) Hunt of Duluth; sister, Jean Youngdahl of Duluth; brothers, David (Sharon) Rowell of Duluth and Dennis (Dolly) Rowell of Esko; 10 grandchildren, Casey Abbott, Angie Hubbard, Adam Hunt, Amanda Wurst, William Hunt, Edward and Peter Knudsen, Erika Hunt, Breanna Smedshammer, and Durrell Motley; and 19 great grandchildren. Gathering of family and friends will be from 3:00 to 6:00 p.m. Friday, February 8th in Evergreen Knoll Community Building, 1309 14th St., Cloquet. Inurnment will be in Hillside Cemetery in Carlton in the spring.
