Shirley Neece ? Eulogy Shirley was the first born child to Theo and Lucy Petty on July 17, 1935. Her young life was spent in Porterville, California to Berkeley, California and finally settled in Seaside, Ca. where Shirley spent the rest of her life. Being the first of ten brothers and sisters to follow was fun and exciting. Many fond memories of growing up in a full household of 11 children was always a favorite story Shirley shared. At eighteen years old Shirley met Harry Neece at Monterey High School. They were married and quickly conceived their first child, Tinker followed by Christine, Gary and Debbie. Shirley always said she had a lot of babysitters within her large family. As the kids grew up, we all enjoyed her delicious cooking and fun Sunday night dinners. No matter what Shirley cooked, it was always so good! She was famous for her fried chicken, and fish dinners. A big part of Shirley?s life was spent at a job she enjoyed as cashier at Food Corner Market. She worked for the Casas family who were all like a second family for her for 40 years. She was a familiar face at food corner market meeting and greeting and making friends with each person that walked in the door. She made lifelong friends that would return to the store after they had to kids to show Shirley their babies and their grandkids. Because of her sweet demeanor, no matter where she went someone always stopped her to say hello. Shirley?s favorite pass times were taking walks, gardening and family gatherings. Shirley was preceded in death by her husband Harry, her daughter Debbie, her parents Theo and Lucy, her sister, Rosie. Shirley was a Loving mother to Tinker & Terri, Gary & Kerry, & Christine. She was a Loving Grandmother to Rian, Sonny, Danny, Shawn, Timothy & Bethany. When we look back, it is the great moments and the great people that we cherish and remember in life. Shirley was one of those great people.

For almost 100 years, our cemetery has served the residents of the Monterey Bay Area. Mission Memorial Park opened in 1934 as Mission Memorial Cemetery and for many years was run by the City of Monterey. In 1988, Monterey Peninsula Mortuary opened on the grounds of our beautiful Seaside location. In 2007 we closed our Chapel of Seaside at our Noche Buena location and merged the two to become Mission Mortuary & Memorial Park....
