Shirley Joy (Barrett) Parsons Reiner died on August 23, 2023 surrounded by her family. Born in Geneva, Ohio to Marianne (Crittenden) and Harold G. Barrett on July 24, 1934. Married her 1st husband Robert P. Parsons June 12, 1954. Raising their 4 children in Cuyahoga Falls & Akron, Ohio. Shirley & Bob moved to St Petersburg Fl in 1992. She was a life long advocate for human rights and nonviolence. Shirley graduated with a BSN, in the Nursing Program at Kent State University. Shirley was active in the Kent, Akron and St Petersburg Quaker Friends Meeting and the American Friends Service Committee. She created a nurturing loving environment for her four children, nieces and nephews. Giving them the same strong advocacy for all people and creating a more peaceful world. As an accomplished artist, shared many of her oil paintings with family and friends. Preceded in death by her parents, her first husband Bob and father to her children, son Charles Gibson Parsons, PhD, second husband Jan Reiner, brother Thomas Barrett, and daughter in law Teresa Parsons. Survived by her Sister Mary Ellen Prichard, her children, Stephanie (Tracy) Parsons, Robert (Linda) Parsons, Amy (Carol) Parsons and daughter in law, Ann (Ed) Wirtanen. Grand children, Daniel (Heidi) Parsons, Emily (Jeff) Yost, Great Grand Children, Preston, Everett & Anya Parsons; Sophia, Andrew & Jase Yost. Cousins, Gary Crittenden & Nancy Blanchard, as well as a host of many family and friends. Shirley requests donations to be made to the Charles Gibson Parsons Memorial Scholarship Fund at MIT or to Lifebank, in her honor. Memorial services will be in the mid October, details yet to be determined.
