Military honors and interment will follow in Crescent Hill Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday evening at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, please send memorials in honor of Spero Pete Trakas to: First Baptist Church of Columbia-T.V., P.O. Box 1000, Columbia, SC 29202. Mr. Trakas passed away on Monday, August 16, 2010. He was born in Gaffney, SC to the late Spero Pete Trakas, Sr. of Arahova(Sparta) Greece and Iva Neely Trakas of Mooresville, NC. He was a WWII Purple Heart Veteran of the United States Army that was wounded in St. Lo, France. Mr. Trakas owned several small businesses in Spartanburg, SC, but his most successful was a snack cake business in the Columbia and surrounding areas from 1976 until his retirement. Surviving are his children, Gerrie Scott, Pete (Dot) Trakas, Danny (Shirley) Trakas, Bill (Carol) Trakas, Genell Chavis, David (Rosa) Trakas and Sharon Foster; and a host of grandchildren and great-grandchildren that will miss him dearly. Our father was a very loving and generous person which was displayed each and every weekend when he dropped food/snacks at Oliver Gospel Mission and Prison Ministry. Our family cannot sufficiently express our thanks to the following: First Baptist Church of Columbia-T.V. Ministry, Bryan Dorn VA Medical Center-Red Team, Rest Assured-Ms. Ann and the staff at Heartland of Columbia. The family has entrusted Greenlawn Funeral Home with the arrangements.

Greenlawn Memorial Park

Greenlawn Memorial Park

Greenlawn Memorial Park is one of Columbia's most historic perpetual care cemeteries. This gorgeous setting combines serenity, natural beauty, and diligent care for generations of families. North Lake, located in the center of our park, offers a water feature and is the site of many local events, including an annual Easter sunrise service, a Greenlawn tradition for over 50 years. The park also has a veteran's section, private family estates, a columbarium with niches for cremated remains, and an incredible granite mausoleum....
