Stella Elizabeth Bowers, 85, homemaker, passed away on January 11, 2021 in Colorado Springs, Colorado. Stella was born to Phillip Maxwell Bristol and Margaret Gladys Mae Garniss in Westerville, Nebraska on September 6, 1935. Stella was preceded in death by her parents; and her loving husband, William "Bill" W. Bowers. Stella grew up in Ansley, Nebraska and graduated from Ansley High School. She attended Kearney State College in Kearney, Nebraska where she met William "Bill" W. Bowers. Stella and Bill were married on June 7th, 1956.Stella and Bill spent a few years in Nebraska and then relocated to Security/Widefield in 1959. To this union, three children were born; Melissa Ann, Mark Alan, and Michelle Lea. Bill and Stella were very involved in the community and Widefield School District Three. Stella was a long-time member of Good Shepherd United Methodist Church in Security where she served on multiple committees. She was a member of the United Methodist Women, the Peace Makers, and served in the Food Pantry. She loved doing arts and crafts. Stella and Bill also started and sponsored the Fellowship of Christian Athletes at Widefield High School for several years. She served as a Girl Scout Leader and as a room mother. After her husband passed away in 1979, she started working for Widefield School District Three as an Education Assistant and worked at North Elementary and Widefield High School. She retired from Widefield School District Three in 1997. Stella leaves to cherish her memory her children, Melissa A. (Les) Hornbaker, Mark A. (Camille) Bowers, and Michelle L. (Mark) Walker; her grandchildren, William Hornbaker, Chris Hornbaker, David (Chelsea) Hornbaker, LeAnn (Jaron) Shelter, Rachel Bowers, Catherine Bowers, Kevin Walker and Cole Walker; her great-grandchildren, Molly Brickley-Hornbaker and Charlee Bowers; a sister-in-Law, Cindy (Les) Hildebrand; and several nieces and nephews and many others. A special thanks to Shirley (Emory) Chiak and Leonard (Bud) and Phyllis Bartel.The Bowers family would like to thank the staff of The Bridge at Colorado Springs for their care and support.
