Stephen French Richards, Jr., 68, of Roanoke, VA, passed away Monday, January 17, 2022, at Our Lady of the Valley Nursing Home in Roanoke, VA. Born March 19, 1953, in Lynchburg, VA, he was a son of Nellie Eagle Richards and the late Stephen French Richards, Sr. He graduated with a B.A. from the University of Tennessee, and received his PhD from Arizona State University. He was an active member of his church, an avid reader, and most importantly, a proud grandfather. He is survived by his mother, Nellie Eagle Richards of Madison Heights, VA; one son, James Edward Richards (Cassie) of Canton, TX; two daughters, Sarah Elizabeth Richards and Amanda Marie Richards, both of Carrollton, TX; two brothers, George Roscoe Richards (Pam) of Lexington, VA, and William Kenley Richards of Madison Heights, VA; one sister, Barbara Sue Nelson (Bill) of Norfolk, VA; three grandchildren, Rylee Lynn Richards, Sydney Addison Richards and Tinsley Opal Richards, all of Canton, TX. A visitation will be held Monday, January 24, 2022, from 10-11 A.M. at Grace Memorial Episcopal Church followed by a funeral service at 11:00 A.M. with Rev. Karin MacPhail officiating.
