Thomas E. Benson

Thomas E. Benson, age 66, of Venice, Florida, passed away unexpectedly on July 26, 2014. He was born on October 15, 1947, in Concord, New Hampshire and was preceded in death by his parents Edward P. and Helen M. (Arell) Benson and his nephew Michael Benson. Thomas, a disabled veteran, served a tour of duty in Vietnam as part of his six years in the United States Marine Corps. He was proud when promoted to the rank of Staff Sgt. before receiving a “hash mark”. He is survived by his loving wife Roberta of 43 years, his devoted son Caesar “bird” Benson; a brother David (Sally) Benson of Lancaster, New Hampshire; two nieces Carrie (Joe) Marshall of Lancaster, New Hampshire and Stacey (Steve) Fuller and their two daughters of Weare, New Hampshire. Tom had a long and successful career in the automotive business in Concord, New Hampshire, before he retired to Venice, Florida in 1990. Visitation will be held from 9:00 – 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday, July 30, 2014 at Farley Funeral Home in Venice. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 10:00 a.m. at Epiphany Cathedral in Venice. A graveside service with military honors will be held at Sarasota National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the D.A.V., 600 Colonia Lane East, Nokomis, Florida 34275 or to the Salvation Army, 1051 Albee Farm Road, Venice, FL. 34285.
