Thomas Alan Boatman
September 11th, 1958 - January 15th, 2017
Thomas Alan Boatman of Gilbert, Arizona, passed away on Sunday, January 15th from an infection and other complications of a brain tumor. He was born September 11, 1958 in Logansport, Indiana, the son of Eugene W. "Bill" and Dorothy M. Boatman. He was a 1976 graduate of Logansport High School, and earned his B.S. degree in Industrial Management from Purdue University. He is survived by his wife, Linda Carpenter; children Travis Boatman and Lisa Chappell Dan, cherished granddaughter, Ruby Chappell; sister, Jeanne Shepple Steve, brother, Anthony Boatman; and many nieces and nephews and grandnieces and grandnephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and by one nephew, Jeffrey Shepple. Tom was employed for 26 years in the information technology department of the Mesa AZ Public Schools, a position from which he retired in 2012. He was a devoted member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, and he and Linda served as senior missionaries in Pine Bluff, Arkansas in 2013. Tom loved the gospel of Christ and strived to do his best to serve Him. Above all, Tom loved his family, his religion, Diet Coke, The Office, and inside jokes he hoped to be a part of one some day. He will be greatly missed by all those whose lives he touched. In lieu of a viewing you are invited to a celebration of Tom's life Friday, January 20th from 6:30-8:00 p.m. at the LDS Church at 1150 W Elliot Road, Gilbert, Arizona. This will be a casual come and go time to share memories of Tom and greet the family. Funeral services will be held the following day on Saturday, January 21, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. in the same location. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions be sent to LDS Philanthropies at https://www.ldsphilanthropies.org/humanitarian-services/funds/humanitarian-general-fund.html or your favorite humanitarian organization.
