Thomas Engel
April 12th, 1938 - July 25th, 2024
Thomas John Engel, beloved husband, dad, and Papa died peacefully on July 25, 2024, at the age of 86. He was born on April 12, 1938 in St. Paul. He was preceded in death by his parents, Al and Betty Engel, and sisters, Margaret Mary (John) Bannigan and Kathy Murphy.
Tom is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Mary Lou (Talbot), and their 4 children, Suzanne (Frank) Zobitz, Cathy (Gene) Abbott, Tommy, Liz (Tracy) Hogenson. Tom has 7 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren: Hannah Zobitz (Maxfield Rotert), Zoey and Xander; Frankie (Maddy) Zobitz; Beth Zobitz (Brady Ballis); Anthony (Katie) Abbott, Ellie, AJ, and Henley; Kally Abbott (Ryan Venteicher), Skyler and Cayden; Charlie Abbott; Tillie Hogenson. Also survived by Don Talbot (Peggy) and Dan Murphy, as well as many nieces, nephews and godchildren.
Tom’s greatest joy was spending time with Mary Lou, their children and grandchildren. He had a zest for life and enjoyed gardening, golfing, reading and watching the Minnesota Twins. He loved celebrating holidays, especially sharing his Christmas village for all to enjoy.
Tom was a man of strong Catholic faith and was a compassionate, caring, gentle soul. Tom’s love and faithfulness will forever live in our hearts and in those who were fortunate to know him.
Mass of Christian Burial Tuesday, August 6, 10AM at St. John Neumann Catholic Church, 4030 Pilot Knob Road, Eagan. Livestream available at sjn.org. Visitation at 8:30AM; lunch to follow Mass. Interment at 1:30PM Resurrection Cemetery.
Memorials preferred to the Alzheimer’s Association, Boys Town, St. John Neumann Catholic Church or the St. Paul Seminary.
