Thomas P. McGuire
July 7th, 1934 - August 2nd, 2016
Son of Thomas Francis McGuire of Enniskillen, County Fermanagh, Ireland and Kathryn (Hendrick) McGuire. Thomas was born in Mt. Vernon, New York, attended Holy Family Grammar School and was an altar boy at Holy Family Church in New Rochelle, NY. He graduated from Iona Preparatory School in 1952. Tom was a Sea Cadet and studied with the US Air Force Weather Service until 1959. Tom was then stationed in Japan, Korea, Guam, Wake Island and Johnston Atoll. Upon his return, he worked at Westchester Airport Control Tower while completing his degree in Meteorology with New York University. Tom married the love of his life, Lieselotte Niederau from Dé¼ren, Germany in 1964. They had two children, son Stephan and daughter Monica who pre-deceased Tom in death in 2008. Tom joined the National Weather Service and was stationed in Akron and Cleveland, OH as well as Pittsburgh, PA and Portland, ME. For the next 20 years he worked his way up to become chief meteorologist for the Eastern Seaboard, for over 113 weather stations while stationed at Logan Air Port, in Boston, MA. He also was a Boston radio weather reporter for many years. He retired in 1989 and began a new career as owner of Travel Agents International (now American Express Travel) in Woburn, MA. He retired from the travel agency in 2002 and moved with his wife to Pelican Point, Venice, FL. He was still active as a weather consultant with Global Weather Oscillations until his death. Tom is survived by his wife of 52 years Lieselotte (Lisa), son Stephan (Stephen), brother Gerald and his wife Ann McGuire of Norwalk, CT., and his many nieces and nephews. Thomas will be remembered for his kindness, accepting and calm disposition, and a quick and intelligent sense of wit by all who knew him. Tom was a fine and good man and was an extremely dedicated and supportive husband and father. He passed from complications associated with Bronchitis. Cremation services will be private and donations may be made to Our Lady of Lourdes Church in Venice, FL.
