Tina Marie Mekel
March 26th, 1956 - June 8th, 2024
Tina Marie Mekel, passed away on June 8, 2024. Tina was born March 26, 1956, in Franch Camp, California. She was one of three children of W.C. Cartwright and Anita Gay Crossland.
Tina attended Notre Dame college in Manchester, New Hampshire and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in education and a master’s degree in special education.
Tina worked at Del Sur Elementary School for 20+ years where she taught students with special needs. Her passion for teaching, devotion, and determination has made an impact on hundreds of students’ lives and their families. Tina enjoyed painting, cooking, and spending the holidays with her family and friends. The Christmas season was her favorite.
Tina is survived by her husband, Juan Mekel; her four children, Jeremy Barnes, John Barnes from Huntington Beach, California, Joshua Barnes, and Katarina Mekel from Colorado Springs, Colorado; Seven grandchildren, Tina, Jasmine, AJ, Chloe, Jaxon, Crystal, and Jessica; brother, Bill Cartwright; sister, Vickie Allman.
Tina enjoyed many animals and dogs in her lifetime, but her rescue Oscar has been her beloved companion. He always made sure she was comforted by his presence by being by her side every moment since coming into her life.
Services will be held at The Springs Funeral Services-North, 4310 Austin Bluffs Parkway, Colorado Springs, Colorado on Wednesday, June 12, 2024. The viewing will begin at 11:00AM with her celebration of life following at noon.
Any flower arrangements should be delivered either the evening before or the morning of the service to 4310 Austin Bluffs Parkway, Colorado Springs, Colorado 80918.
