Toussaint Redcross

Toussaint “Papa” Bernard Redcross, Sr., age 86, died peacefully in his sleep at his home in Aurora, Colorado, on Monday, December 1, 2014. Born December 1, 1928, in Hampton, Virginia, to John Henry and Emma Griffin Redcross. Toussaint served in the United States Air Force from 8/1/1947 through retirement in 5/31/1972, attaining the rank of Master Sergeant. He served honorably in the Korean and Vietnam conflicts. After retiring from the Air Force, he went on to have a distinguished career at IBM, where he also retired. Toussaint lived in many different places during his military and public careers — including Okinawa, Japan, Wichita, Kansas, Great Falls, Montana, and Hayward, California – before ultimately settling in Denver, Colorado where he worked at Bank of America until his final retirement. Toussaint will be especially remembered for his quick wit, wisdom, spirit of adventure, and the tenaciousness that allowed him to achieve top rankings in many diverse endeavors. He is survived by his wife Janet Redcross, a sister Yvonne Jackson (Dave); his children Toussaint Redcross, Jr. (Michael), and Audrey Gonzales (Perry); and their child Christopher Redcross. He is also survived by his wife’s children, whom he loved dearly, Kimberly Folks (Derek), and Tamara Boyd (Lapedra); his grand-children, Lcpl. Zachary Gonzales, and Alana Gonzales; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and many friends. Relatives and friends are welcome at the service to be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, December 29, at Fort Logan National Cemetery, 4400 W. Kenyon Ave., Denver, Colorado. Please join us for a reception following the service at the Heather Gardens Clubhouse – Aspen Room, 2888 South Heather Gardens Way, Aurora, CO 80014, from 1 to 5 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are welcome and should be mailed to the Hospice Care of the Rockies, 6851 S. Holly Circle, Suite 220, Centennial, CO 80112. A special thank you to the staff and volunteers at Hospice Care of the Rockies for their help and support. Toussaint will be sadly missed, but joyfully remembered.
