Vera Ramstetter Nash

Vera Ramstetter Nash, 88, originally from Cincinnati, Ohio, passed away in Sarasota, Florida on August 26, 2018. She was born in Cincinnati, Ohio on January 14, 1930, to her parents Vera Ramstetter (Eilerman) and Francis Ramstetter. She moved permanently with her husband, Dudley, form Cincinnati to Florida in 2007. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dudley O. Nash, who died in Sarasota, Florida on December 17, 2013. They were married in St. James Catholic Church in Wyoming, Ohio on July 29, 1989. Her step children are Charles Nash (Martha), Loveland, Ohio, Elizabeth Nash (Robert Knox), Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Tricia Nash Greenberg (Steven), New York, New York, and Janet Nash Sing (Kevin), Plainfield, Vermont. Vera's step grandchildren are: Mabel Greenberg, Violet Greenberg, Paige Nash, Leslie Nash, and David Nash. She was preceded in death by brothers and sisters, Paul, Victor, and Robert, Jacqueline Cooper, Mary Ann Kummer and Sharon Hillebrand. She is survived by her brother, Richard who lives in Cincinnati. Among other survivors are nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews. She is especially grateful to her step daughter, Tricia Nash Greenberg, her nephew, James Cooper and her niece Mary E. Otis who have been very attentive to her needs. Vera was an avid student during all of her school years. She graduated from High School at Oldenburg Academy in Oldenburg, Indiana where she had a four-year scholastic scholarship. Her BA degree was from Marian University in Indianapolis, Indiana and her M Ed was granted from the University of Cincinnati. Pursuant to her desire to excel in her achievements and to seek additional learning, she did graduate and post graduate work at the following institutions: St. Louis University, Northern Illinois University, Marian University, University of Cincinnati and Kent State University. In the early years of teaching, Vera taught in several parochial schools in Ohio and Indiana and taught at Western Hills High School in Cincinnati prior to her promotion as supervisor within the Cincinnati School System in 1970. After several promotions, Vera spent her final years in the Cincinnati Schools as the Director of Adult and Vocational Education, the first female to hold the position. She retired from the Cincinnati School System in 1991. Vera was a published co-author of four books and edited numerous books for publishing companies. She was a life member of the American Vocational Association where she served on the Editorial Board of the American Vocational Journal in Washington, DC. She held membership in the Ohio Vocational Association, National Education Association, The Cincinnati Teachers Association where she served as their Secretary for several years, National Association of Supervisors, Ohio Association of Secondary Administrators, and was a past president of the National Association of Local Directors of Vocational Education where she was a member of the Board of Directors. Vera conducted curriculum workshops for teachers in many states in the U.S. She was a devoted member of the Cincinnati Woman's Club and the Venice, Florida Community Center where she volunteered for many years. She was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma where she served two years as the Vice President, and Zonta International. Vera received many educational awards. Among them was a National Science Foundation Award to Northern Illinois University and Ohio Vocational Leadership Development award to Kent State University, three citations from McNight Publishing Co. for Research and Development, and several commendations from the Cincinnati Board of Education for Curriculum Development Projects. Farley Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Funeral Mass at Epiphany Cathedral is scheduled for Friday, August 31, 2018 at 9:30 am. Burial will follow at Sarasota National Cemetery in Sarasota.
