May 11th, 1923 - November 6th, 2015
Funeral services for Verma Cathree Hutto Metts, 92, of Lexington, will be held at 2:00 PM Wednesday, November 11, 2015 in the chapel of Thompson Funeral Home of Lexington, 4720 Augusta Road, Lexington, SC 29072. Pastor Philip Vaughn will officiate. The family will greet friends from 1:00 - 2:00 PM at the funeral home Wednesday prior to the service. Burial will follow in Elmwood Memorial Gardens. Born in Orangeburg, Verma was a daughter of the late Clayton and Mary B. Williams Hutto. She was a nursing assistant at the S.C. Department of Mental Health Burns Center in Columbia for 30 years. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and sister, who will be dearly missed by all who knew her. She is survived by her daughter, Mary M. Wilcox of Lexington; son, James R. "Jimmy" Metts (Carol) of Lexington; grandchildren, Tracy Bedenbaugh (Charles), Stephanie Turbeville (Bobby), Scherry Griffith (Kenneth), Spencer Wilcox (Jennifer), Beverly Miles (Ryan), Michelle Nienhius (Nathan), Josh Wilcox (Kelly), Jamie Hudson (Shaun), Casey Conover (April); great-grandchildren, Ashton Miles, Autumn Godley (Zack), Ashley Nienhius, Colt Bedenbaugh, Kenlee Griffith, Lindsay Wilcox, Weston Turbeville, Jacob Turbeville, Jeremy Nienhius, Savannah Turbeville, Isabella Hudson, Kaedan Wilcox, Kyle Wilcox, Thomas Hudson, Emery Wilcox, Konnor Wilcox, Samuel Turbeville, Robbie Wilcox, Brian Conover, Hope Conover, Gracie Conover, Eliza Jane Hudson, Corley Anne Hudson; sisters, Marie Derrick of Swansea, Dorothy "Margie" Neese of West Columbia, and a number of nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, husband, Paul B. Metts, Sr.; son, Paul B. "Buck" Metts, Jr.; brothers, Earl Jefferson "Slim" Hutto, Richard Arnold Hutto, Ronald Warren "Dick" Hutto. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, South Carolina Chapter 4124 Clemson Blvd - Suite L, Anderson, SC 29621, Pilgrim Lutheran Church Youth Ministry Program, 1430 North Lake Drive, Lexington, South Carolina 29072. The family would like to thank the staff of Palmetto Lane at Lexington Extended Care for their loving and attentive care.
