Vernon Monroe Owens
June 30th, 1957 - September 30th, 2018
Vernon Monroe Owens, 61 of Floodwood died on Sunday, September 30, 2018 from injuries sustained in an automobile accident. He was born June 30, 1957 in San Gabriel, California to Howard and Nancy Owens. He grew up in San Diego and graduated from Santanna High School. Vern joined the Army in 1974 and in 1976 joined the Marine Corps where he worked as a mechanic. In 1988 he enlisted in the Navy and served an additional four years. Vern moved to Floodwood in 1996. He was a member of the Floodwood VFW, the VFW Honor Guard, and has served on the Floodwood City Council for many years. Vern was preceded in death by one sister, Theresa Moe; and his step-father, Howard Moe. He is survived by two daughters, Anna Marie Owens of Jacksonville, NC and Alannah Owens of Billings, MT; his mother, Nancy Moe of Longmont, CO; father, Howard Owens Jr. of Bakersfield, CA; sisters, Connie Owens of Dulzura, CA, Kim (Dean) Tomaschko of Longmont, CO, and Chaz (Randy) Hofman of Floodwood; brothers, Guy Moe of Pine City, Kevin Moe of St. Paul, Howard (Billie) Owens III of Buffalo, NY, and William Kirkpatrick of Washington DC; five grandchildren, Jade and Kevin Owens and Kiara, Aubriella and Anthony Owens. Visitation: 10 until the 11:00 a.m. Memorial Service Saturday, October 13, 2018 in New Life Community Church in Floodwood. Military Honors will be accorded by the Floodwood VFW Honor Guard. Inurnment will be in the MN State Veteran's Cemetery in Duluth. Arrangements entrusted to Atkins Northland Funeral Home, Cloquet.
