Viola Catherine Mittlestadt

Viola C. Mittlestadt, 74 of Cloquet passed away Friday, Oct. 22, 2010 in St. Mary's Medical Center in Duluth. Viola was born in Thompson Township on June 2, 1936 to Waino and Impi (Savo) Johnson. Viola was raised in Esko where she attended and graduated from high school in 1954. While in high school she belonged to a number of different clubs, choir and band being among her favorites. Music was a big part of Viola's life. She played the saxophone and accordion and loved the polka. Vi worked at Wood Conversion for a short time after graduation. On March 5, 1955 she wed Robert Mittlestadt and together they raised seven children. Viola was preceded in death by her parents; husband; sons Bobby and Merlin; grandchild Cordell Rowe; brother Armand Johnson; and sisters Ester Fagre and Irene Hopkins. She is survived by her children Debra Mittlestadt, Robert (Kelly Kishel) Mittlestadt, Angela Mainini, Betty (Mark) Zacher, Kari (Steve) Young, Timothy Mittlestadt, and Emily (Loel Seboe) Mittlestadt; grandchildren Charissa, Farrah, Zachary, Sheena, Dusten, Nicholas, Rydge, Travis, Tabitha, Erica, Kara Jo, Jack, Samantha, and Jory; one great grandchild, Westin; her sister, Ellen Larsen; and her beloved dog, Piggy. Funeral services were held on Tuesday, Oct. 26, 2010 in Apostolic Lutheran Church, 25 Church Rd., Esko. Burial was in Apostolic Lutheran Cemetery. Arrangements entrusted to Atkins Northland Funeral Home, Cloquet.
