Violet Vega-Talley
September 10th, 1935 - September 27th, 2018
Violet Vega-Talley, 83, was called home Thursday, September 27, 2018, and is now, and forever, in the presence of her Lord and Savior. She grew up in Winnsboro, S.C., and also lived in Lando, SC. She gave her life to Christ at a young age and her faith was demonstrative to others throughout her life. Violet was a devoted wife, caring mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, but more than anything, a faithful servant of God. She was a long-standing member of the Elmwood Avenue Church of God, and spent many years teaching children’s, youth, and senior Sunday School. She was a catalyst to the youth’s journey to be Christ followers, and she was humbled to play a part in the process. Her faith was strong; we know she moved mountains and never left her knees. Her friends and family often called on her to pray in person and over the phone because they thought she had a direct path to Heaven. She was so faithful and vigilant in prayer that her grandchildren were convinced she had a pipeline straight to heaven. Violet was a spirited woman with a subtle sense of humor that could show itself at the most unlikely of times. With her there was no filter, and what was on her mind flowed right off her tongue. Her observations of life, of people, were never kept secret within her own heart and mind. They were always made available for public consumption whether requested or not. Violet was predeceased by her first husband, Joe E. Vega; her mother, Lonie Hobbs; brothers: Evans Proctor, Frances Proctor, Bo Proctor; and sister, Annette Lindler. She and Joe had two sons, Johnny (Janet), Ron (Gloria); and one daughter, Sandy (Chuck). They had six grandchildren: Stephanie Maroney (SSG Travis), Casey Vega Simmons (Brett), Brent Walsh (Jenny), Jonathan Vega, Jessica Walsh, and Ron Vega. They had eight great-grandchildren: Briana, Jordan, Emily, Brayden, John Henry, Ricky, Camden, Gideon, Eden and Simeon. She also had one great-great-grandchild, Emerson. Violet was also predeceased by her second husband, Carlton B. Talley. Surviving are his children: daughter, Midge Summers (Mark), daughter, Carla Lowery (Wayne), son, David Talley (Cindy), son, Gary (Paula); grandchildren: Shawn, Erin, Jimmy, Fabiana, Amanda, Ashlyn, Katelyn, Cassidy, Tracy, Collin, Emily, Kynslee, Abigail and Lauren. Visitation will be from 12:00 – 2:00 PM on Monday, October 1, at Elmwood Church of God, and the funeral service will follow the visitation, beginning at 2:30 PM. Private graveside service. Pallbearers: Brent Walsh, Jonathan Vega, Ron Vega, Jordan Maroney, Brayden Maroney, Jeremy Quick, Gene Proctor. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Elmwood Avenue Church of God in memory of Violet Vega-Talley.

We Entrusted Violet Vega-Talley's Care To
Greenlawn Memorial Park
Greenlawn Memorial Park is one of Columbia's most historic perpetual care cemeteries. This gorgeous setting combines serenity, natural beauty, and diligent care for generations of families. North Lake, located in the center of our park, offers a water feature and is the site of many local events, including an annual Easter sunrise service, a Greenlawn tradition for over 50 years. The park also has a veteran's section, private family estates, a columbarium with niches for cremated remains, and an incredible granite mausoleum....
