Age 92, of St. Paul WWII veteran, Sergeant-Armorer Gunner (612) flew with the 15th Air Force in Italy. Walter was born and lived his entire life in the Macalester-Groveland area of St. Paul. He loved working in his yard and conversing with the neighbors. He was always open and yearning to have a friendly conversation and loved going to Gopher football games. For over 50 years he owned and operated Northstar Magazines up until his death. Preceded in death by wife, Marilyn Joann-Dewars Hays; parents, LeRoy Walter and Jennie (Reichow); sister, Elizabeth Jane Hays. Survived by daughter, Julie (Arthur) Meadowcroft; grandchildren, Leslie Anne and Charles Walter Meadowcroft, Laura Phillips and Alexander Hays; great-grandsons, Austin Phillips and Michael Meadowcroft; daughter-in-law, Cami Reynolds Hays. Service 11 AM Thursday, July 16, at HOUSE OF HOPE PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH, 797 Summit Ave., St. Paul. Interment Acacia Park Cemetery. Visitation at church 1 hour prior to service. Memorials preferred to donor's choice.
