Wayne U. Nutt
May 8th, 1918 - October 14th, 2017
Service for Wayne U. Nutt, 1st Sergeant U.S. Army retired and retired cattle farmer of Hopkins will be held on October 19, 2017 at 12:30pm at Mt. Elon Baptist Church, with interment at Ft. Jackson National Cemetery at 2 p.m. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Mr. Nutt passed away October 14, 2017. He was born in Hamburg, Arkansas on May 8, 1918. He was the son of late William W. and Irene Hudgens Nutt. He was first married to Judy Clark who predeceased him, and then to the late Edna Roberts Nutt. A veteran of WWII, he served in the Pacific Theatre and in Okinawa. He also served in the Korean Conflict. He retired from the army in 1961. He then served 21 years in Civil Service before retiring in 1982 as the supervisor of the Perishable Subsistence Facility of Ft. Jackson. During his tenure in Civil Service, Mr. Nutt was awarded the Department of Army "Outstanding Performance Award" three times. Mr. Nutt was a member of Mt. Elon Baptist Church, where he served on many committees: Deacon, Trustee, Church moderator, and taught Sunday school class continuously since 1952. Surviving are his wife Patricia Nutt of the home, grandson , Gregory Gattine of Poughkeepsie, N.Y., Kara Porres of Marlboro, N.Y. Two great grandsons and two great granddaughters, one great great granddaughter, and step daughter Teresa Booth and her husband Lewis Booth of Elgin, SC. Also, several other survivors are one step grandson, three step granddaughters, and four step great grandsons. He predeceased by daughter Frieda Gattine and brothers Herman, Lavelle, Woodrow, Roger, Warren, Lynn, and sisters Lena Sawyer, Verna Mol, and Annice Durham. Memorials may be made to Mt. Elon Baptist Church Rd., Hopkins, SC 29061.
