Wes was born to William Wesley and Clara (Barton) Wambold. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1947 until 1967 when he retired having earned the National Defense Service Medal with Bronze Star. He was a U.S. Navy boxer with an amateur record of 37-5, and later served as the All Navy boxing coach earning honors as the All West Coach five times and All Navy Coach three times. Upon his retirement from the Navy he continued with a career as Manager/Trainer in professional boxing, managing and training seven World Champions. In 2011 he was inducted into the California Boxing Hall of Fame. For the last 18 years he was active in community service with youth boxing clubs in the Rogue Valley in Oregon, helping to start the Bulldog Boxing Club and later founded the Cougar Boxing Club in White City, Oregon. Wes passed away at home in Arvada, Colorado after suffering from Parkinson’s disease. He will be laid to rest at Ft. Logan National Cemetery in Denver, Colorado on Friday July 6th, 2012 at 10:15am. He is survived by his wife Linda Wambold, sister Sylvia Smith, daughters Linda Krone and Connie Neidt, sons Wes Jr. and Richard Wambold, and eight grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. Honorary Pall Bearers include Casey Marshall, Joe Sayotovich, James Kinchen, and Tevel Holeman. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Disabled American Veterans organization.
