William L. Harris

William L. Harris, 88, of Columbia, SC, died November 24, 2022. Mr. Harris was born December 22, 1933, in Denmark, Mississippi, to Warren and Elora Harris. He joined the United States Army in 1953. He did tours in Korea and Germany. He served his country for 20 years before retiring, Seargent First Class, and opening his own business, Industrial Tool Repair. He enjoyed target shooting, hunting, fishing, bowling, reloading, singing, playing the guitar, golfing, and metal detecting. Mr. Harris is survived by his daughter, Joyce Stockman (Charles); brother, Joe Harris (Veronica); sisters, Mary House, and Debra Claypool; grandchildren, Christopher Stockman (Stephanie), and Philip Stockman (Jennifer); and great-grandchildren, Trent Stockman, Pierce Stockman, Mya Stockman, Elliott Stockman, and Grant Stockman. He was predeceased by his parents; his wife, Louise Harris; and his siblings, Warren B. Harris, and Wilva Buchanan. Services will be held at Fort Jackson National Cemetery on November 30, 2022 at 11am. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be given in memory of William Harris to Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, 2920 Pella Avenue, West Columbia, SC 29170.

Greenlawn Memorial Park is one of Columbia's most historic perpetual care cemeteries. This gorgeous setting combines serenity, natural beauty, and diligent care for generations of families. North Lake, located in the center of our park, offers a water feature and is the site of many local events, including an annual Easter sunrise service, a Greenlawn tradition for over 50 years.
