George A. Eidson, age 94, of Mt. Carmel, passed away Tuesday, June 9, 2015, at Indian Path Medical Center in Kingsport, following a brief illness. He was a native of Rogersville, TN, and the son of the late, Charlie and Opal Eidson. George Eidson was a United States Army Veteran having proudly served his country as a member of the Merrill's Marauders Unit in the Pacific Theater during World War II from the years 1942-1945. During his service he received the World War II Victory Medal, the American Service Medal, the Asiatic-Pacific Service Medal in which he received the Bronze Star, and the Good Conduct Medal AR 600-68. He separated from the service as a Tech-5. Following his service in the military, George resided in Mt. Carmel for the past 62 years. He was employed by the Mead Corporation for 32 years in the maintenance department. After retirement he served as building inspector for the Town of Mt. Carmel and volunteered many hours in the community. In addition he was a member of the Mt. Carmel Senior Citizens Center. Early in life he attended Big Creek Baptist Church; after moving to Mt. Carmel he attended the First Freewill Baptist Church of Church Hill. He was preceded in death by the mother of his children, Gladys Goins Eidson; 2nd wife, Mina Vanzant Eidson; parents, Charlie and Opal Eidson; brothers, Jess, Albert, Claude, Tom and Ron Eidson; sisters, Mary Ann Jaynes, Leola Horne and Margie Hicks; and grandsons, Todd Eidson, Andy Worley and Joey Maunder. He is survived by his daughters, Wanda Worley Davidson (Gary), Doris Price (Johnny), Marcella Eidson and Betty Madison (Dale); son, Larry Eidson (Angela); step-son, Larry Vanzant (Robin); grandchildren, Holly Broadwater, Randy Price, Tina Nottingham, Melissa Millsap, Randall Dykes, Anissa Sankey, Melanie Maunder; 24 great grandchildren; 1 great great granddaughter; brother, John Eidson (Yvonne); 3 sisters, Jackie McIntire, Ruth Williams (Don) and Sue Thurman (Don); several nieces, nephews and a host of extended family and friends. The family would like to thank George's special caregivers, Patti Dixon and Mellanee Gott for all their support for him throughout his illness. The family will receive friends from 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm on Thursday, June 11, 2015 at Carter-Trent Funeral Home in Church Hill. Funeral services will follow at 7:00 pm with Pastor Tecky Hicks officiating. Special music will be provided by Howe's Chapel Quartet. Military graveside services provided by American Legion Post 3/265 will be at 1:00 pm on Friday, June 12, 2015 at Liberty Hill Cemetery in Mt. Carmel. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the church of one's choice. Online condolences may be sent to the family at www.cartertrent.com.
