Bruce Courtney
August 23rd, 1922 - May 30th, 2015
Bruce Courtney, 92, of Kingsport, went to be with the Lord early Saturday morning (May 30, 2015) at Wexford House following an extended illness. He was born in Dunbar, Virginia and had resided in Kingsport since 1946. He was a decorated veteran of the United States Navy having served in World War II. He was a member of the American Legion Hammond Post # 3. Bruce was very active in his younger years playing for Dobyns-Taylor in the Kingsport City League. He retired from Johnson-Hilliard as an Assistant Shop Foreman with 42 years of service. Following retirement, he loved to travel and was an avid fisherman. He also enjoyed photography, taking special interest in the Golden Club at First Christian Church. Mr. Courtney attended First Christian Church for many years. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joe and Ina Courtney; a brother, Charles Courtney and a sister, Virginia Blizzard. Surviving is his loving wife of 68 years, Loraine Miller Courtney along with several nieces and nephews. A special thank-you goes out to the 2nd wing of Wexford House along with his special neighbors for the special care given during his illness. Calling hours will be held on Monday (June 1, 2015) at Carter-Trent Funeral Home, downtown Kingsport from 11 a.m. to 12 noon or friends may also call anytime at the residence. A funeral service will be conducted on Monday (June 1, 2015) at 12 noon in the funeral home chapel with Phillip Sams, Minister. Music will be provided by Phillip Sams, Minister. A graveside service will follow the funeral at East Lawn Memorial Park on Monday (June 1, 2015) with Phillip Price, Herbert Dotson, Jack Collier, Wayne Collier, Don Warner, Roger Warner, and Max Warner serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Homer Stallard, Wayne Stallard, Coy Klepper, and Gerald Miller. A flag presentation will be conducted by the American Legion Post #3. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to First Christian Church, 106 East Charlemont Avenue, Kingsport, TN 37660. Carter-Trent Funeral Home, downtown Kingsport is serving the Courtney family.
